Here are more details about some of the organisations in the parish, starting with ………
BickLifts – this is a community car scheme set up to overcome some of the shortcomings of the existing public transport services, particularly in relation to access by the frail and elderly. For details of what journeys are eligible and the cost involved, contact the Bookings Coordinator.
BickOil – parishioners can save money on their annual oil bill by joining BickOil. The saving is achieved by placing a bulk order for several households in the village and therefore obtaining a good discount.
Quantock Eco – was launched on 12 February 2010. Its mission is to help Quantock villages develop resilience in the face of rising energy costs and changes in our habitat.
We have had considerable success so far and now have members not only from Bicknoller, but also from Bishops Lydeard, Cotford St. Luke, Nether Stowey, Stogumber, West Bagborough, and West Quantoxhead. For more information about our projects, you can download the Quantock Eco Report May 2010 or email us on quantockeco@btinternet.com
Village Hall – is a fine village hall which is home to a whole range of activities for all ages. Adjacent to the hall is an Adventure Playground and Play Area which provide a valuable and well-used activity area for children. The hall is also available for private functions and parishioners receive reduced charges.
Village Shop – this is a community shop which opened in April 1995 in the barn next to the Village Hall. It was financed largely by loans from parishioners and is run entirely by volunteers from the parish on a non-profit making basis. The shop sells many local products and is open Mon, Tues, Wed, Thur, Fri & Sat from 09.30 – 12.30 (except Bank Holidays) plus, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 14.30 – 16.30.
Womens Institute - the Bicknoller W.I. meets on the 2nd Thursday every month – 7.30 p.m. at the Village Hall. We welcome anyone who’d like to come along to our meetings to get to know us and find out more about us. For any further information – or if you would like to become a member – please contact the Secretary (01984 656633)
